“JUST FLU” – How On Earth Was I Going To Cope?

This month has been a bit of a write off for my little family. The girls have both had chicken pox within two weeks of each other, and then last Sunday I came down with the flu! For an awful moment I thought it was shingles, but with the distinct lack of a rash the doctor instead diagnosed “JUST FLU” and sent me off to bed for a week!

JUST FLU!IN BED FOR A WEEK!… Seriously, I’m a single mother of four year old twins, how on earth did she think that was going to happen?

How on earth was I going to cope?

Thankfully, the great friends I’ve made at the school gates, clubbed together to support me in the school runs, they bought me lunch, made me tea and even tidied the house for me. They bought me shopping, which mainly consisted of various drugs and I really don’t think I could have done it without these amazing people.

I would like to thank them for their patience and putting up with me being borderline delirious for most of the week. I also apologise if I said anything untoward, but with a temperature of 39.6 I was more worried that my brain may fry in my skull and whether I was actually going to survive to tell the tale.

I knew it was bad when I text a client on Tuesday to ask when I was supposed to be cutting his hair. (I had a vague recollection that he had been booked in but couldn’t find him in my diary.) He text back me to say, I had already done it on the Friday before!

My blog was also neglected last week, mainly because I found it too hard to type lying down! Therefore, as with most other things I gave in and handed myself on a plate bed, to the lurgy to do with what it pleased.

On a plus point, staying horizontal meant that I could support the amazing Jo Whiley’s 26hr treadmill run from my bed. Live streaming is a great idea, but the fact I donated £1 every time she looked like she was struggling, meant my phone bill will possibly be higher than my temperature!..

One week in and I am still here in bed, but I’m sitting up, (always a bonus.) I have started eating again and showering, much to the delight of Jasper cat who has had to put up with the stench of near death for the past seven days!

I’m slowly catching up on the worlds events and have rejoined the blogging community to find the BIB’s (Brilliance In Blogging) awards are now open for nominations. Personally, I think the MAD’s and BIB’s nominations are far too close together, and you can only pester your generous, kind, beautiful, sexy readers so much before they are bored and shut off.

However, the fact I have been so ill lately and in desperate need of blogging love, support, and mere ego boosting. I have very kindly attached the nomination form here for you all to fill in. You don’t have to fill in EVERY category, but the ones most fitting for http://twinstiarasandtantrums.com would be Best Writer, Best Family, Best Photography and Best Travel.

To be shortlisted would definitely make me feel a whole heap better. So I thank you in advance for your time and I promise to pay in cake if I get through :-)

What a nightmare for you! I haven’t had flu since I was 11, but my husband and two sons had it at Christmas 2012 and I don’t think any of us have quite got over it yet! It was absolutely horrendous! Thank goodness for the support of amazing friends.

Yes thank goodness! I really don’t know what I would have done without them all. I haven’t felt like this for years and hopefully won’t be feeling like it again any time soon :-(

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I know how hard it is when it´s just you and the girls. I´ve been feeling under the weather the last few days. Nothing near what you have but already struggling to cope with it all, can´t imagine what it must have been like for you! Hope you get better soon.

Thank you Gloria and thankfully I have plenty of people offering help. Goodness knows what I would have done otherwise. I’m definitely on the mend now though :-)
